ROYAL Marines charity Go Commando and their mascot Col Kev Ted joined in with the children from Cotford St Luke Primary School to commemorate National Heroes Day.

The event was founded by a former Royal Marine from Norton Manor Camp-based 40 Commando, Robin Hollington, whose own son, Richard, was killed in action in Afghanistan in June 2010 while serving with 40 Commando.

The children and teachers raised £263 for Go Commando by donating a £1 each for a non-uniform day and dressing up as their own heroes.

Col Kev Ted joined the morning assembly and then visited all the classes to meet the children individually.

Charity chief executive Debbie Howarth said: “We are extremely proud of the efforts made by the children of Cotford St Luke school and will be working harder to raise awareness of this important day, and one which really helps children to understand what it means to be a hero.

“It was nice to meet some of the children of our Royal Marines families too.”
