AN ARTIST from Bridgwater has been chosen to paint a Shaun the Sheep sculpture as part of next summer’s trail in Bristol and London.

Sue Webber submitted her proposed design as part of a competition and is heading to Bristol next month to paint it onto one of the models.

Following the successful Gromit Unleashed trail that ran in the cities last year, 120 giant Shaun statues will be popping up in central London and Bristol next summer.

The Aardman Animations character was recently voted the nation’s all-time favourite BBC children’s TV character in a Radio Times poll.

Sue told the Mercury her good news after she watched her Samuel Taylor Coleridge design fetch top bidding in the Taunton Deane Dragon Trail Great Dragon Auction on Sunday night.

Her dragon was bought for £2,200 as trail organisers coined in around £27,000 for charity by selling 22 of the trail dragons.

Sue said: “The dragon was great practice for painting a Shaun the Sheep.

“It’s been a good summer and I’m looking forward to the Shaun the Sheep trail – but I have to keep my design secret for the moment!”

Sue’s Samuel Taylor Coleridge dragon was bought by Lisa Nelson and Mike Hellings, of Ruishton, near Taunton.

The Shaun trails run in London from March 28 to May 25 and in Bristol from July 6 to August 31, 2015. To see more of Sue’s work click on www.behance.net/susanwebber
