A CHARITY ball will celebrate the end of the 8km dredge along the Rivers Parrett, Sowey and Tone in response to last winter’s devastating floods.

The Flooding on the Levels Action Group (FLAG) and people affected by the flooding are hosting the event at the County Ground, Taunton, on Friday, October 31.

The evening will include a fundraising auction, raffle and fun casino, with money going to KHALSA Aid, a Sikh charity based on selfless service and universal love, which supported FLAG during the crisis; Water Aid, which provides water purification globally; and Much Thorn Floodwings, which aims to ensure the people of Muchelney are not cut off by flooding again.

Among the items being auctioned is a Damien Hirst brandy made by Julian Temperley.

And Matilda Temperley will be at the ball signing copies of her book about the floods, ‘Under the Surface’.

Event organiser Mark Rosales said: “This is a major event for FLAG. We are hosting this to celebrate the work completed on the dredge so far and raise some money for worthy causes.

“We are all honoured and proud of the opportunity to support these organisations, so that they can continue their work supporting hard hit communities.”
