A DRIVING instructor from Watchet is taking part in a nationwide relay to help raise money for Children In Need.

Steve Page, who works for Sally’s School of Motoring, discovered the plan to help youngsters around the UK last year.

He said: “I saw on Facebook that another driving instructor was trying to get as many driving instructors in the UK as possible to take part in a nationwide convoy to raise money for Children in Need.

“The Big Learner Relay will see instructors and pupils drive from one place to the next with a Pudsey rooftop box and then they will pass it onto the next car and so on.

“We’re hoping to have a convoy from Tiverton all the way up to Bristol Airport, where I’m dropping the box off.” Steve said he wanted to take part because he could identify with what Children In Need was all about.

“They try to make a difference to the lives of children in the UK. That to me is really important and in a way that’s what I do,” he added.

“I help people to learn how to drive and make a change to their lives.

“Children in Need aims to change young people’s lives for the better and helps them on their journey.

“All children deserve a good start in life and to have all options available to them.”

So far nearly 150 instructors have signed up to take part nationwide, starting in Northern Ireland on October 30 and finishing in Birmingham on November 14.

Louise Walsh, organiser said: “I’ve had the most incredible response so far and, not wanting to miss out on any of the fun, I am travelling the whole of the UK route in the back of each lead car lesson.”
