A SOMERSET charity is issuing a plea for more volunteers to come forward in order to enable them continue the work they do helping men with prostate cancer.

The future of the Somerset Prostate Support Association (SPSA) is in doubt as many of its members and supporters are ill or elderly and are now finding it difficult to help.

The charity, which relies entirely on volunteers, has been offering help and support to men who have been diagnosed with cancer or other prostate problems for more than ten years.

Meetings are held four times a year mainly in Taunton with the group also holding occasional social events throughout Somerset.

SPSA Chairman, Brian Smith, said: “The group is very important as a lot of people who have been diagnosed with cancer gain a great deal of comfort from the support we offer.”

Any member of the public who may be interested in volunteering for the association is asked to contact the current secretary, Brian Smart, on 01823- 272184 or the chairman, Brian Smith, on 01934-713012, who would both be happy to explain more about the SPSA and to answer any questions.
