YOBS who broke into a park overnight and threw one of the dragons into the river have been blasted for spoiling people’s fun.
Firefighters were called out to rescue Daisy from the water in Vivary Park, Taunton, early on Sunday morning.
Taunton Deane Mayor Dave Durdan, leader of the dragon trail, said: “Why spoil people’s fun? It’s unbelievable.
“One young boy who cuddles and kisses the dragon every time he goes by was in tears.
“But it’s not just children who have enjoyed the dragons – it’s virtually everybody of all ages in the community.
“It’s been a community venture and all the money goes back into the community.
“It’s such a shame that anyone would try to ruin it.”
Daisy was discovered by Vivary Park ranger Shaun Cregan when he unlocked the park gates.
Mr Cregan, who said the attackers must have climbed over the fence, alerted the fire and rescue service and the dragon was hauled to safety by four firefighters.
“Fortunately, it’s not been damaged, which is a relief, but it must have taken a lot of effort to push it into the water as it’s quite heavy,” said Mr Cregan. “It’s all so pointless.”
