MOTORISTS making use of Wellington’s North Street car park can expect their surroundings to soon get a facelift.

The location is being targeted as part of Taunton Deane Council’s broader drive to neaten up the borough.

Councillors approved a £102,000 sprucing-up package at last week’s full council meeting, which will also be spent on additional street cleaning, new litter bins, extended verge cutting, and weed spraying.

The money will come from underspends in 2013, as well as extra income, although the borough council has said it will put aside some cash in reserves.

However most will be spent on improving the environment, extending superfast broadband provision in more rural areas, and resurfacing selected car parks, among other projects.

Money will also be spent on weed clearance, pothole repairs and a number of new payment machines in car parks across Taunton Deane, the council has said.
