A BRIDGWATER business will donate a percentage of the sales of its best-selling toy to help support a bumble bee charity.
Hippychick, in Roberts Drive, Bridgwater will give money made from its popular ride-on Wheelybug collection to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
Julia Minchin, Hippychick founder, explains why the company is backing the bumblebee cause. She said: 'The Bumblebee Wheelybug is one of the most popular in the range. As a responsible retailer of nursery toys and accessories, our intention is to use the popularity of this bee toy to help spread the Trust's message about the vital role that bumblebees play in our lives and, perhaps more importantly, our children's futures.”
Hippychick is also planning to get directly involved with the trust's local projects. The Shrill Carder Bee is the UK's rarest bumblebee but one of the seven remaining populations has been identified on the Somerset Levels, home to Hippychick's headquarters. Julia and her husband Jeremy will be helping South West based conservation team from the trust to monitor the species by participating in regular surveys.
