FOUR riders were injured on Berrow beach when their horses were spooked and threw them to the ground.

The incident happened on Wednesday as the group was travelling along the beach. It is not clear what made the horses react but all riders were thrown.

Ambulance crews and the coastguard were called to the scene by beach wardens who arrived to offer help.

A spokesman for South West Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 1.02pm. Initially, it was reported that a teenage female had been thrown from her horse in Berrow and sustained arm and hand injuries.

“However, after receiving more news from the emergency services on the scene it was apparent that three other riders had also been involved in the incident.

“Three of the riders suffered minor injuries and one sustained serious injuries.

“Due to the manner of their injuries, all four were taken to Weston General Hospital as a precaution.”
