A CRIMINAL investigation has been launched after criminals caused "mindless damage" by breaking into two businesses and setting one on fire in Yeovil in the early hours of this morning (August 12).

Police say both businesses, a taxi company and tailors on Central Road, opposite the bus station, were targeted and say cash and property including a taxi radio and digital radio were stolen.

A fire was also started in the tailor’s shop which caused significant damage to its contents and smoke damage in the taxi’s offices.

An investigation into the incident has begun and detectives would like to speak to anyone who saw the properties being broken into or someone acting suspiciously in the area.

Investigating the burglaries, Detective Constable Celia Pile from Yeovil CID said: “This mindless damage caused significant disruption to the owners and staff of two long-standing Yeovil businesses. We’ve begun our investigation and I’d urge anyone with information to get in touch with us.”
