FLOOD-HIT Burrowbridge residents braced themselves for the worst on Sunday as the stormy after-effects of Hurricane Bertha began its passage over the South West.
The Environment Agency, which has a dredging works base at the village, was taking no chances in light of severe weather forecast by the Met Office from the early hours of Sunday, lining up a long row of “dumpy bags” along the banks of the River Parrett on Saturday.
Readers across Somerset reported intermittent strong winds, heavy rain, and sunshine on social media on Sunday.
Yesterday (Monday) morning, flood alerts and warnings for coastal areas at Dunster, Porlock, Minehead, Combwich, Bridgwater and Burnham remained in place from the Environment Agency, warning of potential “overtopping” and onshore flooding.
