CELEBRITIES and people across Chard and Ilminster have been expressing their shock over the death of actor Robin Williams today (August 12).

Williams, 63, was pronounced dead at his home in California after police were called at around noon local time.

Williams was famous for films such as Good Morning Vietnam and won an Oscar for his role in Good Will Hunting.

He also starred in popular children's films Peter Pan and Flubber among others.

On the Chard & Ilminster News Facebook page people have been recalling their fondest memories of him.

Hayley Lynch said: "Hook- He will live on forever as Peter Pan :)"

Jill White said she remembered Mork and Mindy along with Mrs Doubtfire "with fondness".

Donna Sell posted: "A lovely man who will be missed :)".

Celebrities and global figures from across the world have been paying tribute to Williams.

Dragons Den star Deborah Meaden, who lives near Curry Rivel in Somerset, posted on Twitter: "Goodness what shocking sadness that we have lost Robin Williams he made much laughter and stirred much emotion #RIPRobinWilliams"
