HORTON village hall was packed to the rafters at the weekend for the village’s 51st flower show.

The event had almost 400 entries, up on last year, in 96 categories and veteran competitors once again swept the board with Margaret Excell winning the trophy for overall points in the gardening sections, closely followed by Roger Mazilius.

Sue Gingrell wowed the judges with her baking skills, narrowly pipping Ilminster resident Chris Sainsbury to the post to the award for most points.

District councillor Linda Vijeh entered 12 categories and came away with three second places for her flower arranging, photography and her savoury flan with red onion and heirloom tomatoes.

She was also delighted to successfully bid for the biggest onion in the auction of produce that followed.

Locals and visitors also enjoyed the cakes and other refreshments the Women’s Institute provided.
