FUN and laughter was on the agenda at Ferne Animal Sanctuary’s family fun day.

The event raised £7,036.56 for the charity and the a whopping largest number of visitors yet turned up for its biggest fundraiser of the year.

Jo Fuller from the sanctuary had her head shaved with dog clippers and raised more than £300, which will go to the £1m New Digs for Dogs project.

Mayor of Chard Cllr Jenny Kenton, who opened the fun day, said: “This is the second year I have been given the privilege of opening this event.

“Everyone’s hard-earned cash spent today will help keep this fantastic centre open and fit for the future.

“For us it’s a great day out – but for the animals who are homed here, it is their lifeline.

“Andy [her husband] and I are regular visitors. We have watched the sensory garden being built and now we are looking forward to coming back again in November when the New Digs for Dogs rehoming centre opens.”

Sanctuary acting director Patricia Gardner- Harper added: “A huge thank-you must go to all the staff and volunteers who worked so hard to make the day such a massive success.

“Everyone at Ferne is absolutely overwhelmed by the support and number of visitors on the day – it was way beyond our expectations.

“We now plan to make it even bigger and better next year.”
