TWO vibrant cabaret concerts sang up over £6,000 in the name of getting one Bridgwater performer a big step closer to his drama school dreams.

Bridgwater College student Harry Winchester has been offered a place at the world-acclaimed Arts Educational Schools in London but needs to raise £15,000 to fund his way to the private college.

On Friday and Saturday an army of performers from Bridgwater and London staged two ‘Music of the Night’ concerts at Bridgwater Town Hall, to give Harry a helping hand with their mix of songs from the shows with rock and pop tunes.

As an operation, it couldn’t have run more smoothly, Harry tells the Mercury.

He said: “I felt the ‘Music of the Night’ cabaret was extremely successful, and we had amazing feedback.

“The audience really seemed to enjoy themselves due to the wide variety of performers from all different genres of music and performance types.

“The performers were relaxed and worked hard to ensure that, along with the backstage crew and front of house crew, the performance flowed as smoothly as possible.”

Ticket-holders got to see the Sally Williams Dancers and the Lola Fisher Academy of Dance in action, hear the vocal talents of Phoebe Fisher, Stuart Rouse, Ben Filler, Lauren Ingram, Pulse, Caitlin Faulks, and Kat Stevens.

While Harry performed ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Miserables, and ‘On The Street Where You Live’ from My Fair Lady, on the night, Ashley Quinn, Jude Roberts, Molly Bird and Kirby Warren also gave their best performances.

A raft of donations of lighting and sound equipment, advertising and decorations helped Harry make the most of the musical spectacular.

He added: “I would personally like to thank everybody for their extremely kind donations towards this production, as well as the audience members who came to the event, to donate a lot of money towards the Helping Harry campaign.”
