WITNESSES to a riverside robbery between Hankridge and Taunton on Tuesday are being asked to come forward by police.

The victim was cycling along the river path between Hankridge and Taunton at around 7.10am yesterday (August 5) while on his way home from work.

Two men stopped him and then punched him in the face, before taking cash and his bike.

Walking to his home in Taunton after the incident, the victim saw a number of people, who spoke to him and offered help, including a white woman runner in her 20s with a pony tail, who was wearing a pink top and running shorts.

She was one of two women who offered to call the police for the victim.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and may have spoken to the victim.

The suspects are described as two white men in their early 20s, and both about six feet tall.

One was of skinny build and wearing a dark blue coat which may have had a hood.

The other was also skinny and thought to have blond highlights in his hair. He was wearing a hooded top that had a red edge around the hood.

Police are also asking people to look out for the bike which was taken. It is a yellow Dawes mountain bike, which is described as 1990s style with a rear mudguard, no bottle holder and a damaged handlebar grip.

If you are able to help, contact Taunton police on the force number 101, quoting reference 80265/14.

Or you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org

...great, one of the few 'safe' routes into the town centre isn't safe.
Taunton really is crap for cycling - even recent developments like the Third Way is poorly designed for cyclists (short sections of on-road, onto pavement, back onto road).
Taunton has such potential to be a cycle town that will help reduce congestion & improve health but where is the vision and the balls to make it happen?

No where is safe, especially cycle routes that have no Police patrols on them.

I hope they catch these scumbags and throw the book at them but then again they'll just say they needed some cash to feed their illegal and legal high drug habit and they'll be let off with a small fine and a slapped wrist.
