BRIDGWATER College student Jack Armstrong, has been offered a summer job with Thatchers Cider after completing a work placement with the company.

Jack, aged 19, received one of the college’s Land-based Scholarships with Thatchers Cider.

This included £500 for the duration of the course to support his studies and 200 hours’ work placement with the sponsor.

Whilst at the company Jack put elements of his college-based studies into practice by taking part in orchard work and winter jobs such as pruning and planting.

He also had the opportunity to see every step of the cider-making business, from fruit pressing, fermentation blending, packaging, distribution and marketing.

Jack, a former student of West Somerset Community School, said: “The scholarship has been invaluable in terms of the experience I have gained.

“It was hard work at times, involving long days and early starts, but the hard work has paid off as I have been offered and accepted a summer job in primary processing.”
