A TEACHER from Bridgwater College Academy has received a special grant to help organise this year’s student project.

Phillip Heard was handed £500 as part of the Bridgwater Town Council Ward Grant by Fairfax Ward councillors Graham Granter, Alex Glassford and Pat Morley.

The grant was awarded to Phillip for his fantastic support and contribution to the year ten students’ summer camp and to help the students in their efforts to raise the necessary funding to go on the trip.

Phillip said: “For a number of years I have been running an annual camp to Woolacombe for year ten students.

“We go during the first week of the summer holidays and stay at a large campsite in Woolacombe.

“Activities are mostly beach based and include the usual summer holiday events of body boarding, beach games, exploring rock pools, enjoying ice creams and visiting Ilfracombe. We do all the catering and enjoy the site facilities that include indoor and outdoor pools, a nine-hole golf course and discos in the evening.

“We are on camp for seven nights and work hard to keep the costs as low as possible.”
