A MAJOR refurbishment is planned for a Highbridge pub which will include a new skittle alley for teams recently made homeless.

Des Griffiths and his partner Margaret Day have put forward ambitious plans to totally overhaul The Globe pub.
They want to build new entertain¬ment space which could be used as a function room and games area.

The revamp will cost about £100,000 but Mr Griffiths, who recent¬ly bought the pub from the brewery, hopes he can get the bill down by chipping in and doing a lot of the work himself.

The couple has been approached by skittle teams who lost their home when Morlands Social Club closed to make way for a housing develop¬ment. And it is hoped they can start playing at the pub as soon as possible.

Ms Day said: “We want to be a com¬munity pub and by building these new facilities we want to offer some¬thing for everyone.

“The skittle teams could re-locate here and we also hope to be able to hold functions for the town which would be a boost for us.”

The plans for the Globe have been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council and also include improving the toilet facilities which will include provision for the disabled.

The upgrade would also include improving the couple's living accom¬modation by having new bathroom space and a small kitchen.

A spokesman for Blueprint Architectural, which drew up the scheme, said that Mr Griffiths and his partner were passionate about their business and wanted to make every effort to ensure that existing and new clients would have the best possible facilities that the whole com¬munity could benefit from.
