FIREFIGHTERS rescued a boy from the canal in Bridgwater last night.

Two fire crews and Bridgwater's specialist rescue team were sent to the scene in Albert Street, after receiving reports someone was in the water around midnight.

A fire service spokesman said: "On arrival, crews confirmed one male in canal and then attempted to make physical contact using water rescue equipment.

"One male youth was rescued from water using level 3 water rescue equipment and was placed in the hands of the ambulance service to be assessed."

What's wrong with using a length of rope. Does it really take 2 fire crews and a specialist unit to do the job?
