FAMILY fun, a firewalk, live music and good weather made for the perfect medieval weekend in Chard.

Chard Mayor Jenny Kenton and Ilminster Mayor Emma Jane Taylor were among those who walked over hot coals on Saturday night at The Beacon in Crowshute Lane, and live entertainment and fire blowing were also on offer.

The sun shone for Sunday’s event at Jocelyn Park, which included free games for children.

Money raised from the event will go to the Mayor’s five charities – Chard Museum, Chard and Crewkerne After Stroke Care, Chard Carers Support Group, Chard Town Team and Chard Area Youth Committee.

Mrs Kenton said: “The weekend was fantastic, everyone joined in the festivities and there was a great feeling as we paraded up the street both on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

“Stuart Cumming the town crier gave a little history of the charter and when he handed it over to me he declared that this day be known as Chard Charter Day and shall be celebrated annually.”
