BRIDGWATER and District Civic Society are urging people to put their favourite buildings forward as community assets - or risk losing them forever.
In response to the proposed demolition of the Pig and Whistle pub in Sydenham, the Society has expressed concerns there are still no Bridgwater entries on the Sedgemoor District Council Assets of Community Value Register.
The Register allows buildings which are of community value to be saved from sale and demolition for six months, to provide an opportunity for fundraising for community purchase, under the Community Right to Bid.
A spokesman for the group said: βIt does not guarantee success, but it is at least a way of raising the profile of community assets and putting pressure on owners to consider community need, and not just commercial marketing.β
