VOLUNTEER police cadets from Taunton have been presented with Pride Awards by Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens for their assistance during the flooding earlier this year.

They were among the flooding action plan team who helped people on the Somerset Levels cut off by flooding between December and March.

Ms Sue Mountstevens said: “The cadets should be hugely proud of their fantastic effort in supporting all those affected by the flooding.

“Having witnessed first-hand the destruction the flooding caused so many families it is important the cadets know what a difference their tireless work made.

“This is an incredible achievement for the cadets involved.

“The work they do more widely is a shining example of the positive impact young people can have in their communities.

“The cadets have gone above and beyond what is expected of them.

“For young people who are representing the policing service I feel incredibly proud of their tenacity, enthusiasm and maturity, supporting the wider Avon and Somerset policing teams in keeping local communities feeling safe.”

Taunton cadets receiving awards were Laurie Garrett, Holly Conquer, Jowan Penberthy, Becky Preece, Danni Barnes, Sam Causley, Helen Hayes, Mitchell Brooks, Helen Thorne and Mark Bell.
