ALMOST £3,000 was donated to the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment charity over the past week.

The total raised for SURE, which helps buy equipment for the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital, since it linked up with the Gazette now stands at £433,021.27.

Among cash raised was £207 from the Compton Dundon Short Match Bowls Club’s annual charity match; £124 from Nikki Plummer, of Bridgwater, from change left by visitors in the rooms of her B&B; and £124 from Puriton Bingo sessions.

The New Horizon Singers raised £1,500 through various fundraising activities throughout the year, including two concerts at the Baptist Church in Taunton; £14.15 in 5p coins was collected by Andrew and Tina Potter, family and friends; £8.70 in 5ps from Nora Thorne; £10.45 from a collection pot at Chilees; and £812.83 from Wellington Operatic Society from a bucket collection from the audience on the way out from six nights of their performance of Singing in the Rain.
