AFTER completing their GCSEs most sixteen year-olds would be revelling in the chance to kick up their heels on their long summer holiday.

Not so 16-year-old Taunton student Chris Grabham, who has been working his socks off to turn a popular fantasy horror novel into an empowering 57-song musical based on author Anthony Horowitz OBE’s book, Raven’s Gate.

The ambitious teen says the musical, when performed in full, will be in memory of his fellow Bishop Fox’s pupil Amy Hofmeister.

Amy was killed by a speeding driver in June 2011 in Taunton’s Blackbrook Way.

Chris threw a fashion show in Amy’s memory when he was still only a Year 9.

Chris, who won a County Gazette Pride of Somerset Youth Award in 2013, said: “Split into two acts, it’s a rock opera, and it must be one of the biggest – I’ve not found anything bigger.

“I got all the rights from Anthony’s agents, and have written all the songs myself.

“We’re now at the stage where we are ready to showcase 16 songs from it to the public. It has taken up so much of my time, and it’s good fun when you get into it.”

Chris has enlisted his fellow just-graduated all-female cast of Year 11s for Ravensgate: The Musical.

On Tuesday Chris and co showcased an hour-long snippet of the show for free to the public, complete with a live band, raising over £130 for the Think Amy charity in donations.

Amy’s mum, Jane Hofmeister was a special guest at the night, and said the evening was “brilliant”.

Chris says: “Amy was in the year above us, and everyone can remember the day when the news came through. In a couple of years I’m hoping it will be a far more professional operation, and we’ll be able to perform it in full. But we hope it will help.”
