LIDL is asking people who live near its town centre store in Taunton to back its plans to close and open another outlet nearby.
The company intends to relocate from Wood Street to purpose-built premises on the site of the former Taunton Youth and Community Centre, in Castle Street.
The discount supermarket is holding a public consultation on its proposals, as reported by the County Gazette.
Visitors to the event at St James Church Hall, St James Street, Taunton, from 10am to 5pm today (July 11) are being asked to write to planners at Taunton Deane Council supporting the scheme.
A leaflet sent to neighbours of the existing store says the new outlet would regenerate a site “awaiting redevelopment for the last 14 years” with a “contemporary single-storey building to replace the existing dated first generation food store”.
It would also open the way for riverside retirement flats on the Wood Street site.
