SOMERSET cricketers James Regan and Johann Myburgh gave their support to Somerset County Council’s ‘Be Clear on Cancer’ campaign at the recent LV County Championship match against Lancashire in Taunton.
The ‘Be Clear on Cancer’ and Public Health campaign team were on hand at the ground to drive home the message that a mole isn’t the only sign of skin cancer and offer advice on prevention.
With hundreds of new cases of melanoma diagnosed in Somerset each year the campaign team has been encouraging people who notice any unusual or persistent changes to their skin to visit their GP.
The team has visited towns and villages in Somerset and visited farmers, gardeners, families and visitors to events.
County councillor Christine Lawrence, chairman of Somerset Health and Wellbeing Board, said: “It’s important to be aware that there are other signs of skin cancer.
“Don't try to diagnose yourself – if you notice any unusual or persistent changes to your skin it could be a sign of skin cancer.
“Finding it early makes it easier to diagnose, so see your GP.”
