A BRIDGWATER bank customer fell victim to a phone scam and three others were targeted in the space of a week, prompting warnings to the public.

In this latest incident, four people in the town received phone calls from a man named Brian who falsely claimed to work for ‘their bank’s’ branch in Bridgwater.

One woman gave her details to the man after he threatened to close her account if she did not co-operate.

An amount of money was taken from her Lloyds account.

The other three were suspicious and did not give any information to the man.

A Lloyds Bank spokesman said: “Lloyds Bank takes the security of its customers very seriously.

“We invest heavily in educating our customers about scams both through direct messages and via Government and industry initiatives.

“Where customers believe they may have fallen victim to a scam they should contact us as soon as possible so that we can work with them to assess their individual case.”

Police have issued several warnings this year urging people to never give their bank details over the phone following a series of attempted frauds in Somerset.

And banks remind customers they will never ask for full passwords or PINs over the phone.
