A CONTROVERSIAL plan to establish a £150,000 cemetery for Burnham and Highbridge was approved by Sedgemoor District Council planners.
The decision was reached despite fears that local watercourses could suffer pollution from the burial ground and homes near the site could suffer problems with subsidence.
Highbridge's vicar, the Rev Christopher Chiplin, conducted his final service at St John’s Church on Sunday June 19 before taking up a new ministry.
Mr Chiplin was set to begin a position at St John the Baptist Church, Midsomer Norton, later that month after being at Highbridge for ten years.
