THE Environment Secretary says he is pleased with progress made to tackle the risk of flooding on the Levels and Moors.
Owen Paterson, who was at County Hall, Taunton, last Thursday, also reassured the county that Somerset will not be forgotten.
He was updated on a plan aimed at reducing the impact and risk of flooding in extreme weather, including: *dredging and river management, due to be completed by October and involving six teams, some working seven days a week; *infrastructure projects - a ring bank at Thorney, road raising at Muchelney and increased water flow capacity under the A372 at Beer Wall; *the Parrett sluice, with further design work and feasibility work commissioned.
He also heard that work is advancing on the design of key highways upgrades and identifying a further phase of dredging.
