A MINEHEAD country singer is hoping to raise £1,000 for the RNIB over the year by performing around the area.
Jeff ‘Boots’ Wilkins has been entertaining crowds with his one-man country show.
The 69-year-old said: “When I was about 17, I went to Spain and did a tour over there performing.
“I think it sowed a performing seed in me.
“It is something I’ve loved to do from a young age but work got in the way so I had to put it on hold for a while.
“When my wife and I retired and moved to Minehead, I got involved in theatre groups and local choir groups.
“About two years ago I started performing with my guitar and I’ve done quite a few shows throughout the town.
“I wanted to help raise money for the RNIB because my mother-in-law suffers from an eye disease and I’ve see firsthand how that impacts on someone.
“There’s so much they can do now and I wanted to help raise money for a charity that does a lot of good.
“Country music is my preference but I have and do perform other styles of music, whatever keeps the crowd happy.”
Jeff has so far raised over £400 for the charity.
