Taunton Road medics row their way to £1,700
TWENTY staff from Taunton Road Medical Centre in Bridgwater took to the water in aid of charity.
The team raised £1,700.72 for Headway Somerset, which helps people live independent lives after a brain injury, when they took part in Taunton’s Dragon Boat Race on June 8.
Seventeen teams of 16 rowers squeezed into boats helmed by the Dragon Boat Company and launched from the jetty next to the Brewhouse Theatre.
Tracey Pike, practice manager, said: “We substituted people in and out of the different races – there was a heat of three.
“We didn’t win, but it was a lot of fun. People really enjoyed it and no one fell in.
“We did it to help raise money for a local charity, and we’d like to thank our patients and the companies who sponsored us.”
Rowers then made their way 250m towards the county cricket ground with the overall event won by Virgin Active.
Headway Somerset thanked everyone who organised the event and crews who took part.
