A GOOD samaritan who had stopped to check on a cyclist was deliberately driven at and left with severe bruising near Ilminster this morning.

The incident happened at around 10.20am on Saturday (June 21) on Barrington Hill towards Horton near Ilminster.

A black VW Golf was driving erratically and at speed in the Taunton direction when he overtook a cyclist in an aggressive manor. The cyclist had to veer off towards the side of the road.

The driver of a blue Renault Scenic stopped to ask the cyclist if he was ok at which point the driver of the Golf turned around, pulled up behind the Sceneic and shouted abuse at the other driver.

He then revved the engine and deliberately drove at the Scenic driver, throwing him into the air and leaving him with serious bruising and shock.

The injured man, who was 51, was treated by paramedics at the scene who felt that the victim was lucky to escape without much more serious injuries.

The offender then drove off in the Horton direction.
