PARAMEDICS and firefighters are also at the scene.
Two fire crews from Taunton and Wellington were called.
A fire service spokesman said the casualties were an elderly man and an elderly woman.
The man is believed to have been more seriously hurt. Both have been taken to hospital.
CROSS Keys bartender Bill Scuffil said he had seen numerous emergency services piling into the village.
"We've seen about 4 or 5 fire crews and ambulances, which came back out with their sirens going as well.
"They closed the road then they opened it for a while, then closed it again."
POLICE say the road has been closed after a car hit a wall.
The collision happened at the bottom of Rectory Road at around 1.20pm.
A police spokesman said: "Two people were in the vehicle. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle and has an arm injury.
"The passenger had to be cut out of the vehicle by the fire service.
"He has serious injuries and has been taken to Musgrove Park Hospital.
"The road has been closed at the Cross Keys roundabout while we deal with the incident, and we are advising motorists to avoid the area."
NORTON Fitzwarren resident Paula Ballands said: "We've no idea why.
"We tried to come in to Norton from one end but just got diverted to go back around. I think it's literally just happened.
"Is the main road where the Co-op and everything is.
"They've just put up 'road closed' by the Cross Keys pub, and where the bridge is too."
