SHOPPERS in Yeovil are being encouraged to shop for a healthy lifestyle this summer thanks to a new ‘ Pop Up’ leisure centre which opens in a former empty shop in the town’s high street near the end of June.
1610.org.uk health and well-being experts from 1610 Ltd Preston Sports Centre in Yeovil and Stanchester Sports Centre who have jointly organised the venture in partnership with the Quedam will be on hand to give advice to shoppers about lifestyle choices at the former Athena shop.
A range of exciting sports, and fitness and play taster activities will also be available at the venue during the next seven weeks.
Local people will be able to experience taster classes and sports such as basketball, squash, badminton, table tennis, ballet, and gymnastics. There will also be a climbing wall and 1610 specialists from outdoor adventure and health and fitness to give advice on activities and answer questions on exercise and nutrition.
The Manager of Preston Sports Centre, Matt Harras says that the new pop up health and well being hub will help local people access the information they need to make a change to a healthier lifestyle: “ With rising obesity rates in the UK there has never been a more pressing reason to adopt a long- term healthy lifestyle, it is more important than any short term sale bargain. What better way to do this than to bring some fun as well as health and fitness advice to the heart of the local community and make it easy to try and improve your health or take up a new sport.”
