OVER £1,000 was raised for the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment charity last week.

Donations for SURE, which helps equip the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital, included £20 from Mike Crew; £32 from Smeathorpe Women's Institute from their on-going collection of 5p coins; £10 from Mrs Gange; £250 from Wellington Ex-Servicemen's Skittles League; £53 from Jackie Baker and the keep fit ladies of North Petherton following a coffee morning; and £44.76 from a fundraising event held by North Petherton Bowls Club.

There was also an anonymous donation of £10; £24.70, including £21.70 in 5ps, from the Small and Martin families, Charlton; £32 from Mr and Mrs Silver, of Broadway, following a sale of plants; £40 in 5ps from Taunton Bowling Club; £22, including £2 in 5ps, from Pauline Harrison; and a collection at Morrisons, Burnham, raised £278.60.

Donations from collection boxes were £17.70 from Bishop's Hull Conservative Club; £7.12 from Honey's Hairdressers, Galmington; £33.89 from the One Stop Shop, Galmington; £39.85 from the Esso Garage, Wellington Road, Taunton; £63,55 from Trull Post Office; and £269.77, including £227.65 in 5ps, from the Beacon Centre.

Last week’s total was £1,248.94, bringing the amount raised since SURE linked up with the Gazette to £424,399.70.
