THE first round of consultations on helping to regenerate Watchet have been completed.

Onion Collective CIC, a social enterprise group posed the question ‘What do you think Watchet needs for a stronger future?’and a series of sessions was held in April and May with the aim of understanding the town’s regeneration hopes.

The top three priorities to come out of the sessions were:

  • to improve the visitor offer
  • to create more opportunities for jobs and enterprise
  • and to improve or increase community space and facilities.

Also high on the list was building on the history and heritage of Watchet, creating a vibrant ‘buzz’ for the town and enhancing the entrance.

Onion Collective director Jessica Prendergrast said: “What came through really strongly from all of the work we have done is that Watchet people want to see the assets of the town, both old and new, enhanced and promoted.

“We have heard some fabulous and ambitious ideas including a cable car from Splash Point and some of the most common words used to describe the town included ‘quirky’, ‘’friendly’ and ‘vibrant’.

Now that a strong ideas bank’ has been created, work will start on envisioning a plan.
