COUNCIL bosses in Sedgemoor have been supporting a campaign to encourage shoppers to love their local market.

In Bridgwater the Love Your Local Market campaign focused on promoting Bridgwater Indoor Market and Bridgwater Castle Market, with a Cornhill Indoor Market trail competition running on the free Bridgwater Town Guide app.

Mayor of Bridgwater, Cllr Steve Austen, said: “The Love your Market fortnight aims to attract new market traders, and raise the profile of the role that markets play in the heart of the local community; not only for retail but as a valuable community asset.”

Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, Cllr Peter Downing, added: “It is good to see a vibrant market which is an additional draw for shoppers to come into Bridgwater.”

Cornhill Indoor Market includes stalls such as: Dave’s Family butcher, Berry Cool, Nice Buns, Liberation, Unique Fashions, Taylor Made Craft, Cornhill Watches and Bridgwater Discount Jewellery.

Every Friday between 9am to 3pm the bustling Bridgwater Castle Market is held in Fore Street, with local and regional traders.

Market manager Steve Griffiths said: “We hope the fortnight has encouraged you to Love Your Local Markets all through the year.”

The National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) are already planning next year’s campaign which will run May 13 – 27, 2015.
