THE chair of governors at Taunton’s Richard Huish College will give help and support to others in similar roles nationwide after taking up a prestigious position.

Guy Adams has been named a National Leader of Governance, meaning he will support chairs of governors in other schools, colleges and academies to help them improve leadership and raise standards.

His appointment to the two-year position was on the back of his track record at Richard Huish.

Mr Adams said: “I am very pleased to have been appointed a National Leader of Governance after a rigorous assessment process and I am now currently one of only three National Leaders of Governance from the sixth form college sector.

“I am looking forward to having the opportunity to improve governance in the schools, colleges and academies, and sharing the outstanding practice that we have developed at the college.”

Richard Huish College principal John Abbott said: “It is fantastic for us that we have Guy at the helm of our corporation and congratulate him on his achievement.

“Those schools and colleges that work with him in the future will be lucky to benefit from his leadership and experience as we have.”

Mr Adams, a former student at Richard Huish, is a partner at law farm Pardoes Solicitors, a director of two companies and the manager of a property development and letting business.

He has been the college’s chair of governors for eight years.
