SPORTS players at Richard Huish College, Taunton, celebrated another year of outstanding sporting prowess at their annual awards.

Individual, team and collective successes were championed by 200 staff and students who ditched their sports kit for dinner jackets and party dresses for the Huish Sports Dinner and Awards Evening.

The awards went to (see photo): Sportsman of the Year, Men’s 1st XI hockey captain and England U18 player Max Ansell; Sportswomen of the Year, British Taekwondo champion Sapphy Reed-Yang; Parsloe Cup for contribution to Huish Sport, Kellon Booker and Zoe Robinson; Wooden Spoon for the biggest Huish character, Josh Stafford; Captain of the Year, Connie Buttle (women’s football) and Lydia Reeves (netball second team); Team of the Year, netball for their 100% record for first and second teams and men’s hockey, who won their league and retained their title as BCS national champions.

And 20 Upper Sixth students were awarded Huish medals in recognition of their outstanding contribution to college sport.

Sports development manager Harry Lee said: “The sports dinner once again proved a fantastic evening to celebrate the fantastic achievements of our students, in what has been another incredibly successful year.

“It was particularly great to see how appreciative the students were to their coaches for their hard work, and the pleasure they took in celebrating the achievements and efforts of their peers.”
