A SERVICE which provides opportunities and support for adults with learning disabilities is moving into a new home in Bridgwater.

From June 5, Somerset County Council’s Learning Disabilities Day Service for the Sedgemoor area will be based at the Rollercoaster in Bridgwater.

The service, previously based at the Enterprise Resource Centre, offers support to people with a wide range of learning disabilities as well as their parents and carers.

Activities include working with individuals to develop their everyday living skills such as cooking and shopping, helping them maintain and develop friendships, and arranging music, sensory and recreational activities.

A coffee morning will be held on Thursday (June 5) to mark the official opening, with Cllr William Wallace, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for Services to People with Learning Disabilities, joining service users and their parents and carers.

Cllr Wallace said: “Our staff will now be able to focus on people-centred services which offer a much better experience for individuals, as well as continuing to provide essential respite support for parents and carers.”

Future plans include the possibility of extending opening times and including weekends.
