THOUSANDS of bulbs from Yeovil’s award-winning floral displays will be given away for free today (May 30).

South Somerset District Council, which creates and maintains the displays on behalf of Yeovil Town Council, is inviting people to the giveaway at St John’s Churchyard at 9am. Tulips and primroses will be packed up in bags ready for residents to take away.

This year, in return for your free bulb bag, SSDC is asking for your help to plant daffodil bulbs in Oak Tree Park and Howard Road Recreation ground in November 2014. On Friday, staff from SSDC will be noting down e-mail addresses and telephone numbers from those wishing to help make the parks blooming lovely in March/April 2015.

Chairman of the Steering Group, Councillor David Recardo said, “Recycling forms a key part of the Yeovil in Bloom strategy and helps ensure that more and more floral displays are planted throughout the Town making Yeovil an even more beautiful place in which to live, work and visit”.

Lesley Jelleyman, Yeovil in Bloom Officer at South Somerset District Council added, “This is a great way for residents to recycle our old bedding bulbs and help to make their gardens look beautiful. As in the past 5 years, we expect to see a large crowd of people wanting to come and collect some of the bulbs.”

Yeovil won Gold in last year’s South West in Bloom competition for the fifth time and 9 neighbourhood awards in the Britain in Bloom contest.

The Yeovil in Bloom initiative is managed and funded by Yeovil Town Council, and delivered with the support of South Somerset District Council.
