A MEMBER of Burnham's rescue hovercraft charity BARB received an award for his outstanding work from the chairman of Sedgemoor District Council.

At the charity's AGM last Friday, chairman Peter Downing handed the Heathcoate-Amory Telescope award for outstanding performance and support during the year to operations manager Mike Lowe.

Cllr Downing was given a tour of the seafront hovercraft station by BARB volunteers, where he also visited Burnham RNLI and Burnham Coastguards.

At the AGM, BARB chairman Mark Newman announced proposals to expand the BARB headquarters and hovercraft station and add extra training facilities were announced.

Mr Newman praised the volunteer crew for their tremendous team spirit over the past year, particularly in helping flood victims on the Somerset Levels.
