THE second Dragon Boat Race in the River Tone in Taunton on Sunday, June 8, will raise money for good causes.

The boats, helmed by The Dragon Boat Company, will launch from the jetty area by The Brewhouse theatre and travel 250 metres towards the County Ground.

The grand final will see the best teams compete in a dramatic race to determine the overall champions.

The day, which runs from 10am to 3.30pm, will be rounded off with an awards ceremony.

The event will raise money for the organisers, brain injury charity Headway Somerset, as well as other charities and community groups.

Samantha Bell, fundraiser for Headway Somerset, said: “We see this as a wonderful opportunity to reach out to all of Somerset, ensuring that any monies raised remain in county thereby reinforcing the community spirit which is the essence of the race.

“The Dragon Boat Race is ideal for both experienced crews and complete beginners alike.

“People do not have to be fitness fanatics or marathon runners to compete in a team - it’s all about timing and teamwork and team members aged from 16 upwards can paddle and raise money.”
