AN ANNUAL plant sale in Pitminster has celebrated its fifth year of raising thousands of pounds for charity.

The Pitminster Plant Sale at the Old School, Pitminster, coined in cash for Christian Aid.

Event organisers Pat and Daphne Darley have been running the plant sales for 25 years in their village and have raised over £15,000 for charity.

Originally, the plant sales were set up in their front drive as a plant exchange for neighbours and this has become a special date in the calendar of local gardeners.

Villagers now grow both traditional and more unusual annual plants for borders, containers and baskets as well as offering plants from their own gardens to sell.

Mrs Darley said: “Over the years, we have found which plants thrive in the climate and soil around Taunton and there are always more experienced gardeners at the sale who are happy to advise beginners about what to choose.”
