CHILDREN at Westonzoyland Primary School have been given the chance to try dishes and delicacies from around the world at a cultural café event.

Each class chose a country to explore, from Greece to Italy to Japan, to kick-start a learning expedition into different cultures. The pupils were then served food from that country.

Jo Hale, deputy headteacher, said: “The children then went around to all the different ‘countries’ so they tasted all the different types of food.”

Each class is also going to follow its country’s performance at the World Cup this summer.

The school’s initiative also has another goal. Ms Hale said: “We are also looking at healthy eating and poor food.”
