A TEAM of staff and friends from Barclays in Taunton are tackling the St Margaret’s Hospice Great Somerset Walk on Sunday (May 18).

Branch manager Gemma Doubtfire has rounded up 11 people to take part.

She said: “We decided to sign up for the walk – everyone was very keen to do their bit.

“Not only is it is a great team building exercise for us but, more importantly, it’s a fantastic local charity that we can support.

“Barclays will also match our sponsorship total pound for pound, so whatever we raise will be doubled.“

The walk has nine different registration points along the route, so you can choose how far you walk.

Barclays’ team are starting at different check points and planning to meet in the middle for lunch.

Gemma added: “I’m sure there’ll be some friendly competition to get there first.

“We have a team from Barclays Taunton starting at Creech St Michael, walking six miles, and a team from Barclays Yeovil starting at Langport, walking 6.7 miles and we are meeting at Stoke St Gregory for some lunch.”

Gemma believes it is important for businesses to support their community.

She said: “St Margaret’s Hospice does a wonderful job at helping people when they need it, at a difficult time – I’m very proud that we can take part in a fun activity, raise sponsorship and that Barclays will match what we raise.”

The Barclays team consists of Gemma Doubtfire, Lucy Wittey, Lucy Partridge, James Montgomery, Hannah Thomas, Verity Baum, Callum Flaherty, Jamie Wheeler, Asam Yasin, Bruce Howard, Ellie Beattie, Tania Blackwell and Suzanne Jackson.
