THERE were tears in everyone’s eyes when an elderly Bishop’s Hull couple got the chance to see their grand-daughter get married via webcam from London.

Margaret and Herby Venner, residents in their early 90s at the Manor Care Home, in Bishop’s Hull, had thought they would both miss out on the big day.

But staff’s quick thinking meant they got to be a part of the landmark occasion after all, donning matching white roses, in honour of grand-daughter Rose, in their buttonholes, and toasting the newly-weds with a glass of sherry.

Jayne Mannion, head of therapeutic service, said: “I think all homes should do it.

“There was no way on earth they were going to get there, so to do something that special was wonderful.

“You don’t have many couples in care, or at that age. I don’t think anyone anticipated that it would be so moving.

“Herby had been saying the day before that he was ‘going’ to his grand-daughter’s wedding – and he was, in effect.

“We were all in tears watching the joy on their faces.”
