A SENIOR fraud protection public awareness programme has been launched by Home Instead Senior Care in Taunton.

As part of the campaign, launched with Think Jessica, the team has been delivering a number of free senior fraud protection workshops to people and organisations in Minehead.

The aim is to share information about the scale of the problems as well as what to do if you fall victim to scammers.

Organiser Vanessa Munson has also met Taunton police and has been given further materials to help educate the community.

She said: “Through the workshops we are able to help our wider community be more aware and keep safe.

“Many people are trusting and do not realise the risk from scammers.

“We also have a free senior fraud protection kit.

“The devastating emotional distress and loss of confidence that older people experience as a result of being scammed can leave them feeling very isolated.

“We’re hoping to avoid this with better awareness and education, and that’s why we’re getting out into the community and educating as many people as possible.”

More workshops will be run across the area including to visitors of the Alzheimer’s Society and a number of active living centres.
