COUNCILLOR Alan Bradford has been elected as the new Mayor of North Petherton.

Cllr Bradford, who was previously deputy Mayor, takes over the role from councillor Bill Revans.

He told the Mercury: “I look to do what is best for the whole area, particularly looking at cracking down on speeding in the villages.

“Speeding has been an ongoing problem and not enough has been done to address it. Now we have new police bikes specially designed to be used in small villages and tighter spots to capture speeding and other offences.

“We need to keep up a police presence because I feel this can act as a deterrent.”

Cllr Bradford is also a Sedgemoor District councillor for North Petherton Ward and deputy chairman of the Community Scrutiny Committee.
